Bandung, Indonesia – On April 28, 2025, Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR) had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Denis Chaibi, the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, for a significant academic and diplomatic visit.
The occasion marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNPAR and the Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and fostering mutual understanding between the European Union and Indonesia through higher education.


Accompanying the Ambassador were members of the EU delegation are Mr. Stéphane François Mechati, Deputy Head of Mission, EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam and Ms. Anneleen Vandeplas, Political Advisor, EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.


Following the MoU signing, H.E. Denis Chaibi delivered a special guest lecture titled: “Strategic Autonomy in an Era of Trade Wars: The EU’s Role in a Shifting Global Order.” The lecture explored the European Union’s approach to navigating today’s rapidly evolving geopolitical and economic landscape, including its strategies for maintaining resilience, strengthening partnerships, and promoting global stability in the face of trade conflicts and shifting alliances.
UNPAR students, faculty, and guests engaged enthusiastically in the session, reflecting the university’s ongoing commitment to promoting global discourse and international collaboration.
This event marks another important milestone in UNPAR’s dedication to internationalization, providing its academic community with first-hand insights from high-level global leaders and policy experts.
