On May 14, 2026, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Inc. (UNO-R), through its Special Technological and Educational Programs (STEP), marked a historic milestone by holding the 1st Graduation Ceremony for Bread and Pastry Production NC II, sponsored by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The momentous event honored the dedication, hard work, and newfound skills of its pioneer batch of graduates, ready to enter the culinary and baking industry. The celebration kicked off at 8 AM with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Fornilos, OAR, at the Oratory of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, setting a reflective and grateful tone for the day, and was immediately followed by the formal graduation program proper at the university auditorium, at around 9 AM.
The ceremony was graced by an esteemed lineup of speakers who offered words of wisdom and encouragement to the graduates. Rev. Fr. Joel A. Alve, OAR, University President, opened the ceremony with a powerful message on resilience and utilizing skills to serve the community. Vice Mayor Angel Gabriel C. Villacin of Talisay City expressed his pride in the graduates and highlighted the local government’s support for technical vocational education. Director Niña Connie G. Dodd, Acting Regional Director of TESDA-NIR, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the high demand for TESDA-certified professionals globally. Meanwhile, Carmeli Bantug Zayco represented and delivered the messages on behalf of Congressman Alfredo Abelardo Benitez of Bacolod Lone District and Congressman Javier Miguel Benitez of the 3rd District. Following the official presentation of candidates by Dr. Nena P. Samillano, STEP Director, Fr. Alve officially conferred the graduates. The graduates did not just walk away with diplomas—they received their official TESDA training certificates and specialized starter tool kits, ensuring they are fully equipped to start their entrepreneurial or employment journeys immediately. The ceremony also shone a spotlight on exceptional performance with the awarding of Special Awards, led by Rev. Fr. Romeo Ben A. Potencio, Jr., OAR, Dr. Samillano, and Ms. Angelic Q. Huyatid.
Representing the voice of the graduating batch, Ms. Dianne Nicole A. Carrera delivered a moving Reflection of the TESDA graduate, thanking the instructors, families, and the institution for unlocking their potential. The event concluded with a heartwarming video presentation, the singing of the TESDA Hymn and the Graduation Song, and a proud recessional march. Moreover, Mr. Kit Martin De Paula served as the master of ceremonies.
