Congratulations to the University of the Immaculate Conception College of Pharmacy and Chemistry (UIC-CPC) student, Gabriel Antoni B. Lagura, for securing a Silver Honour award at the prestigious International Chemistry Competition (IChC) 2026. Competing against approximately 4,500 participants worldwide, Lagura demonstrated exceptional analytical skills by finishing in the Top 7% of the global cohort.

The competition was split into three rounds: the qualifying round, the semi-final round, and the final round. The qualifying round was an application process that opened earlier this year. The semi-final round took place on May 13, 2026; the final round concluded on June 9, 2026; and the results were released on April 20, 2026.

All rounds of the competition tested participants on comprehensive topics in General Chemistry, as well as an analysis of a professional research paper that specifically investigated the molecular properties of crystalline long-chain nitrogen radical anions.

The International Chemistry Competition (IChC), initiated by Edu.Harbour, embraces this spirit of discovery and gives students the opportunity to challenge their chemistry knowledge and to learn more about this fascinating subject beyond the typical school curriculum.

The competition challenged students to solve the greatest challenges of our time in chemistry, as society needs capable scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers who can tackle complex issues such as developing sustainable energy solutions, creating new pharmaceuticals, designing advanced materials, and addressing environmental concerns.

By engaging with chemistry through competitions and educational programs, students can discover their passion for understanding the molecular world around them.
