“The unexamined life is not worth living.” This quote reminds us of the great philosopher from Athens, Socrates. It emphasizes the importance of reflection as an effort to find meaning in this life. Therefore, SCU annually holds a Work Reflection. “A Changing Encounter” becomes the theme of the Work Reflection in the year 2025. All Lecturers and education staff are invited to reflect on the most memorable moments of encounters.
This activity also serves as a moment of reflection for SCU lecturers and administrative staff, offering them the opportunity to give meaning to their professional journey over the past year. During this time, they were invited to assess how well the university’s core values— joy (joyful), care for others (cura personalis), and meaning (reflective)— have been embodied in their daily work. These three values serve as SCU’s guiding principles in fulfilling its mission as a Catholic university.

Prior to the Work Reflection, lecturers and staff had already engaged in personal reflection, expressed through various creative media such as poems, essays, videos, songs, paintings, posters, and other artistic forms. Over 200 works were collected and will be compiled into an EPUB digital publication. A selection of these works was exhibited at the Agnes Widianti Auditorium, SCU Bendan Campus 1, on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
“May the moments of transformation captured in these works inspire, uplift, and strengthen one another,” said SCU Rector Dr. Ferdinandus Hindiarto. He further emphasized the importance of this reflection in nurturing a spirit of unity and fostering innovation in the university’s service to students.

Meanwhile, Father P. Wiryono Priyatamtama, Chairman of the Sandjojo Foundation, drew a parallel between these reflections and Jesus’ encounter with two disciples on the road to Emmaus. This Gospel story served as the inspiration for the 2025 Work Reflection theme, highlighting the importance of every encounter within the SCU academic community as a source of mutual inspiration. He noted that this message resonates with Pope Francis’ Encyclical Fratelli Tutti, No. 205. Echoing this sentiment, RD. Yohanes Driyanto, Drs., LJC., reinforced the pivotal role of lecturers and education staff in serving students. In his address, he quoted Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to walk in.”
“We have been prepared and placed by God at SCU. Therefore, this mission must be carried out to the best of our ability,” RD. Driyanto affirmed. Through this activity, SCU lecturers and education staff are increasingly strengthened by meeting each other in carrying out their missions at Soegijapranata Catholic University.
