The completion of one’s academic journey marks a proud and significant milestone, especially when celebrated through a formal graduation ceremony. This sentiment was shared by graduates of Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya (UKWMS), who participated in the Graduation Ceremony for the First Semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. A total of 638 graduates attended the event.

The ceremony was held on Saturday, 22 March 2025, at the Widya Mandala Hall (WMH) Ballroom, UKWMS Pakuwon City Campus. The event was led by the Rector of UKWMS, apt. Sumi Wijaya, S.Si., Ph.D. In her official commencement address, she stated, “this graduation ceremony essentially marks the completion of your academic journey and serves as a formal recognition of your mastery of knowledge and academic competence. We sincerely hope that each of you will move forward as successful, resilient individuals and continue to grow as lifelong learners.”

During the event, the Rector also highlighted several recent achievements of the University, including the achievement of UKWMS, which managed to rank fourth in the 2024 UNESA Dimetric Rankings that assesses universities based on their accessibility and support for students and staff with disabilities. Additionally, UKWMS secured the second position in the 2024 Scimago Institutions Rankings as one of Indonesia’s most innovative universities.

Beyond academic success, UKWMS graduates were also recognized for their continued commitment to community service. Although they have officially graduated, the graduates did not forget to continue making a positive impact on society. This commitment was demonstrated through a community service project, which involved the renewal of clean water pipelines for residents of Dusun Ngesong, Manyaran Village, Banyakan District, Kediri Regency. The UKWMS Community Service Team, in collaboration with Dusun Ngesong’s residents, replaced aging iron pipes that connected a natural spring to the main water reservoir. Those pipes had suffered from corrosion, leakage, and breakage due to prolonged usage.

The ceremony also served as a reminder that graduation is not an end of a journey, rather a beginning of a new chapter. Representing the graduating class, Fransiskus Perdi Daya, a student from the Indonesian Language Education Study Program— Madiun Campus, encouraged his peers to continue striving for excellence. “The challenges we face do not end at graduation. There are still many battles to be fought as alumni. Let us continue to be individuals of integrity and take pride in being graduates of UKWMS,” he said in his farewell speech.

UKWMS extends its heartfelt congratulations to all graduates and wishes them continued success as they embark on their professional and personal journeys. May they continue to create, contribute, and make a positive impact on society!
