The University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) has achieved a monumental milestone in its mission for global excellence and social responsibility by officially becoming a member of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). Established in 2012 under the leadership of former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and world-renowned economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs, the SDSN operates under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. The network mobilizes global scientific and technical expertise to drive actionable solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
UIC officially commenced its active engagement with the network during a virtual onboarding session for new members held on April 8, 2026. Hosted by De La Salle University, the session formally welcomed UIC alongside a select cohort of Philippine Higher Education Institutions into the SDSN Philippines Chapter, connecting them directly back to the overarching UN SDSN Global Network. The onboarding mapped out a strategic roadmap for the university, detailing the extensive avenues available for international cooperation, peer-to-peer learning, and access to independent policy-analysis and monitoring tools. A primary operational objective for UIC is to master effective resource mobilization through the network, allowing the university to systematically embed the SDGs across its three foundational pillars: curriculum and teaching, research and extension, and community services.
Through this multi-pillar integration roadmap, UIC will weave global sustainability frameworks directly into the classroom experience under its teaching pillar, design science-based pathways for localized policy under its research and extension arm, and foster peer-to-peer learning and resource sharing within its community services. This membership represents a major strategic leap forward for UIC because it shifts the university’s academic and community extension efforts onto a global platform, enabling students, researchers, and faculty to collaborate directly with UN agencies, governments, and peer academic institutions worldwide.
As a new member of SDSN Philippines, UIC is poised to transform its institutional knowledge into practical solutions for the country’s most pressing challenges. This partnership reaffirms UIC’s commitment to academic excellence that is not only globally competitive but also socially responsible, leveraging the power of the SDSN network to empower its students and faculty to become active leaders in the global movement for a sustainable future.
