Holy Name University (HNU) recently hosted an extraordinary event, “4-in-1 Synergy,” to mark the official launch of her Graduate Studies Student Organization (GSSO), and the Graduate Studies Students Council (GSSC) as governing body, and to celebrate the vibrant academic community she cultivates. On February 22, 2025, the Barder Gym vibrated with energy as faculty and graduate students from HNU’s four colleges– Arts and Sciences, Education, Business and Accountancy, and Health Sciences– gathered for a day of scholarly collaboration, inclusivity, and shared purpose. This event was more than just a launch– it skillfully combined an induction, a general assembly, and an acquaintance party blessed by a Eucharistic celebration perfectly capturing the essence of the “4-in-1 Synergy” concept.

The day commenced with a warm welcome and a smooth registration process, establishing a sense of unity from the start. This was followed by a moving Eucharistic service, led by Rev. Fr. Roberto M. Ebisa, SVD, Director of CREam, and Rev. Fr. Manuel B. Mejares, SVD, Assistant Vice President for Administration. Their heartfelt reflections on the importance of faith in the academic journey established a deeply spiritual foundation for the day, reminding attendees of the integral role of faith in shaping the future in the light of the Word. Dr. Lovella Divinagracia, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs for Graduate Studies, then delivered a compelling address, eloquently outlining the graduate program’s vision, mission, and goals, while emphasizing the importance of fostering a supportive environment for all graduate students.

A defining moment of the event was the “First General Assembly,” where John Mark V. Naldoza, the first elected Governor of the Graduate Studies Student Organization and head of the Graduate Studies Students Council, addressed the assembly with a passionate and unifying message. His words resonated with all present, stressing the transformative power of collaboration and the collective drive towards shared aspirations. This session also included the formal ratification of the constitution and by-laws and a comprehensive introduction to the program’s policies and initiatives, marking a pivotal moment in student empowerment and engagement.

As the event unfolded, a delightful luncheon offered a valuable opportunity for informal networking. Faculty and students from diverse backgrounds came together, exchanging ideas and fostering deeper relationships, further enhancing community and collaboration within the graduate studies professional learning milieu.

The event culminated with the formal induction of the 1st elected GSSC officers, each expressing their commitment to serving the graduate studies community and making a meaningful positive impact.  The event’s theme, “Shaping a Global Future: A Legacy of Community, Faith, and Action,” resonated deeply with all attendees, encapsulating HNU’s determined dedication to fostering a global network of learners and leaders. These individuals, united by a common mission, are committed to creating transformative, meaningful changes across cultural boundaries and the world.

The “4-in-1 Synergy” event was an unequivocal success, not only celebrating the achievements of HNU’s graduate studies program but also showcasing the dynamic, forward-thinking spirit that defines the University community. It provided an invaluable platform for graduate students to connect, learn, and inspire one another, reinforcing HNU’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a global community of scholars and leaders, each dedicated to making a lasting, impactful difference in Bohol and beyond.
